Surgical Specialties

Our team uses advanced surgical and non-surgical treatments for a variety of women’s pelvic health conditions. From bladder control techniques to complex mesh removal procedures, we offer many options for restoring or improving your quality of life.

Dr. Duncan, a Urogynecology specialist treats pelvic floor disorders (PFDs), such as incontinence and prolapse, to help restore his patients’ quality of life, as well as to prevent further problems.

Our staff and doctor are aware of the very personal nature of pelvic floor conditions for women. It’s often difficult for women to even ask for help with these issues.

So, while we are uniquely trained and focused on women’s pelvic health, we are also highly attuned to our patients’ sensitivities and needs. Along with the services our providers expertly perform below, women will find us to be caring listeners and dedicated partners in achieving their unique healthcare solutions.

The following is a list of services, procedures and treatments available at Dr. Duncan’s Office. Treatments include conservative procedures, such as lifestyle adjustments, as well as complex surgical options.

Women’s bladder/pelvic organ issues

Factors such as aging and childbirth can cause the pelvic floor to become weak or damaged. As a result, the ligaments and muscles can no longer hold pelvic organs in their proper place. This situation, called “pelvic organ prolapse,” can give you a feeling of bulging or discomfort, interfere with bladder and bowel function, and cause sexual problems.  Dr. Duncan provides surgical treatment for:

  • Cystocele or dropped bladder

  • Uterine or vaginal vault prolapse

  • Rectocele or bulge at the bottom of the vagina

  • Enterocele or herniation of the small bowel

  • Urinary incontinence (unwanted loss of urine) – surgical and non-surgical management

  • Fecal incontinence (unwanted loss of stool)

  • Vaginal mesh complications – extensive experience removing existing mesh

Non-surgical treatments

Bladder issues that do not require surgery may be treated by Sondra Barker, our women’s health nurse practitioner. She conducts bladder function evaluations and testing, and treats overactive bladder and painful bladder conditions using medications and neural stimulation.

Vaginal birth injuries

Vaginal birth can cause damage to the pelvis and vagina, leading to prolapse and sexual problems. Dr. Duncan performs procedures to repair these injuries, including reconstruction of the vagina.

Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery

The advantages of minimally invasive surgery, including trans-vaginal and laparoscopic techniques, include shorter hospital stays, less discomfort, smaller or no incision, and a faster recovery.

Dr. Duncan is in the forefront of minimally invasive surgery. He is one of few surgeons in the area who performs vaginal laparoscopy, which leaves no scars. Dr. Duncan has extensive experience in

  • Repair of pelvic organ prolapse

  • Removal of the uterus (hysterectomy)

  • Fibroid removal

  • Endometriosis treatment

  • Chronic pelvic pain treatment
